I went back to Hurst on Tuesday and three more posters are up

If you read the last entry, you know I visited tons of libraries trying to stick my poster up there and get an event. Today, I went to Hurst Library again, to get their answer on whether or not I would be able to present! The answer was… unexpected.

Stop 1: Hurst Library

In the library, the lady I met on Saturday was sitting at her desk. She waved at me and I went to ask her where the person I was waiting to meet was. I had called earlier to ensure she was there. I just didn’t know where. All too soon, I had arrived at her desk. She was very nice. I’d worried she wouldn’t take me seriously since I’m a kid, but she listened to everything I had to say about EcoServe. When I asked her if we could have an event, she said that unfortunately, the manager who was supposed to confirm these things was on vacation for the week, but she said that they had some time to squeeze it in, for example during storytime! I was ecstatic!

Stop 2: Hurst City Hall

Next, I headed to… City Hall! At city hall, I was trying to get my poster hung up there. If I was able to get my poster hung up there, EVERYBODY would be able to see it. But sadly, they were only allowed to hang up their own internal posters, not any external posters, even if they don’t sell anything. Before leaving though, I asked what a good next place to go would be, and the lady recommended going to Hurst Rec Centre.

Stop 3: Hurst Rec Centre

At the Rec Centre, I asked the front desk lady there if we could hang up our poster. Unfortunately they didn’t have a bulletin board. BUT, once again before leaving I asked where a good next place to go would be, and she recommended going to Hurst Senior Centre.

Stop 4: Hurst Senior Activities Centre

So here I was, what felt like hours later (but truly only 10 minutes), in the Hurst Senior Activities Centre. Upon walking in, I admit it felt a little strange to be walking into a building that literally said on the doors ‘ONLY 55+’. 55! 55 is 5 times my age. I’m not turning 55 anytime soon. But nonetheless, I stepped inside. The ladies at the front desk greeted me like nothing was happening and I was supposed to be in here. So I went up to the desk and talked about EcoServe, and asked if they would be willing to let me hang up my poster. They said YES!!!!! Once again, I asked where we could go next. One of the ladies at the front desk told me to go to 6 Stones, a local food pantry in Euless.

Stop 5: 6 Stones Food Pantry

6 Stones was BIG. No, it was HUMONGOUS. Ok, that’s still not big enough, it was GIGANTANORMOUS. Even gigantanormous is not a big enough word to describe how big it was. 6 Stones was a thousand times bigger than my local food pantry, GRACE Grapevine. I felt good about this place. The lady at the front desk (I went to their office first) helped me out a lot! She agreed to put my poster up. She also told me that they had many events for kids, and I could present at one of them. The manager was there but was in a meeting, BUT it was certain that I could present there. Faith (the front desk lady) told me that they also had several volunteer opportunities. I could volunteer there and gather information for EcoServe’s gadget. So my time there was great. The best part of the day!

What I learned

Going to all these places was amazing, even if I didn’t get exactly what I wanted at every stop. I even learned a new skill: even if the place isn’t able to give you the opportunity you want, they may have valuable information on where you should go next. So, always ask, “Do you have any suggestions on where to go next?” before leaving any place.
